Justin's owner, Walter English, wrote about him:
Wow, how to write just a paragraph about Justin. Justin was one of those few dogs in ones lifetime who truely went above and beyond. Coming from a breeder of herding Belgians Justin had an exceptional ability to problem solve on his own with little input or training from his handler. While he spent his first 8 years with Denise Fenzie as a competition dog, he spent the last 7½ years with me as a working dogs in several venues. First as a farm dog, herding sheep and cattle. Then we moved to a city where he found his true passion as a security dog dealing with major drug dealers and other fine upstanding citizens. Justin knew what to do and when to apply appropriate actions. He was a master of the “evil eye” and rarely had to provide vocal actions to get the point across to who ever I was dealing with. He also frequently demonstrated his love of searching for and finding any kind of object in any weather or field condition, never failing and never giving up until said object was found and that included everything from tiny cell phones in a ten acre field to a black GSD, in the country on a moonless night. Failure was not an option for Justin, even when I was ready to give up.
While Justin had great training in a variety of venues with Denise, it was his time to shine when he got into practical application of his training. In short, Justin was a dog who took his early life and training and made it into an art form. At no time was Justin my dog, rather from day one with me, he was my partner and we never had a single dispute. OK, sometimes what he wanted to do and the way he wanted to do it, was not quite what I had in mind, so I had to learn that and trust his ability to think and problem solve and it always worked out. Absolute confidence in his ability made for a great relationship and kept me safe. Anything else I can say about Justin just sounds like very biased bragging, he was just that super and talented at whatever he wanted to do and if it was something he didn't want to do, then his creativity shone forth and he could make me look like a real idiot while entertaining the crowd and getting his point across. I think the fact is he owned me rather than the other way around and I just had to trust him totally.
He sits on the shelf now and yet I feel his presence every day. The lessons he taught me are applied to every dog since. A major lesson is to let your dog tell you what he / she likes to do then go in that direction with them as a partner and not as an owner / handler. Get rid of your ego and go with your partner!
Justin was owned by Denise Fenzi of San Francisco, California, and later retired to live with Walter English of Alliston, Ontario. He was bred by Sean and Sharol Hathaway of Rockfield, Kentucky.
