Tapestries: Pablo - Saturday, February 24, 2007, 11:25 PM Standing in front of his black SUV in the mid-afternoon, Cursor shakes his head. "I have no idea how I let you kids talk me into this. Going into Slord territory, sheesh. Anyway, with any luck, they won't be out patrolling the city in the daylight. Of course, daylight also means there's no Umbral escape if we run into something nasty in the city." He tosses down a small pile of cloth and looks at Yiska, maybe a little apologetically. "You're going have to go in homid and wear clothes on this trip, kid." Tony smiles back at Cursor, hands resting in his pockets. "We'll be extra careful. All we're doing is seeing if the car is in the garage, and if it is, we'll grab the keys and vamoose." He grins down at Yiska now, apparently amused by Cursor's words. Yiska flats his ears and glares down at the pile of clothes, 'I would probably draw less attention masqueraiding as a pet than I would walking about as a clumsy homid..' The wolf shakes his head and changes, slowly and begrudgingly putting the clothes on - in front of everyone else. Shay's all ready awaiting to climb into the van. He's eager to get into the city - after all, it feels more like 'home turf' than the woods. Although he knows very little about the Shadow Lords except that they're not really well liked by most. Hope is eager as well, though, of course, a bit trepedatious. She hasn't really talked a lot about that first night, and what happened, or really a ton about herself as all. She hops in the front seat, ready to give directions. Bits is smiling, broadly, and reassures Yiska, "You'll do fine, don't worry. Wolves in the city look weird, and this isn't our city." She's been in a much better mood lately, since, well, she confessed to the pack and wasn't killed. She likes not dying. She's also dressing a little different now, looking a little more, well, young adult, and less pre-teenish. She's wearing black 'Dead Puppies Need Love Too' shirt and flare jeans. Cursor nods in agreement with Bits, adding to Yiska, "You're a very fierce and wild looking wolf. I don't think anyone would believe you were anyone's pet." He looks around, "All right, everyone pile in and we'll get going." Tony gets in the back seat with the other three, rolling down his window and looking quite cheerful. He likes this opportunity to go see civilization, even if it is to a rather tragic locale. As Bits files in next to him, he shoots her a curious look that melts into a subtle smile of approval. It seems he's forgiven her for her lie, after all. Yiska isn't sure if he's being made fun of or what, but he gets dressed all the same and clambers into the back of the SUV, "I hate these things. They smell horrible." He glowers and generally looks like the deffinition of teen angst, what with his black hair covering most of his face and being generally unkept.. Shay buckles in. Sure, Garou can't really be hurt in a car wreck, but going through a windshield would probably hurt like a mother. And that whole 'cover blown' thing when the paramedics find little problem. He pokes Bits, who has to ride on the hump, waggling the clipper thing at her, grinning. As far as trucks go, Cursor's actually smells relatively good, even to Yiska. It runs on bio-desiel, and tends to smell like Mexican food, rather than the stench of fossil fuels burning. Bits just smirks at Shay and rolls her eyes. She checks back to make sure the 'other' Wendigo is okay. Hope says to Cursor, "Um, my house is on the north side, near Wind Point. You know where that is?" Cursor just smiles to the young Fury, noting, "I've been there before, once, to check on your folks. Plus, I have GPS." Hope ohs and nods her head, suddenly looking nervous, fiddling with her hands. Tony looks back at Cursor in surprise, taking his head in from the window. "You've been there to check on her folks?" he asks in confusion. Not voicing the additional question that lingers, being 'aren't they dead?' Yiska finds that kicking the back of Bit's seat is amazingly fun, especially more so if she gets annoyed. Cursor looks back at Tony, "Uh, you asked me to do it, remember? That first night? To see what happened." Hope has nothing to more to add. The drive is about an hour, and actually you skirt southern Milwaukee on the way there. Cursor notes this is the safer route, draws less attention. You near Lake Michigan, and Cursor points north, noting, "Do you see that power plant up there? We think there is a Black Spiral Dancer hive up there, between the power plant and the water treatment plant. The Milwaukee sept is working on it, but it's really Wyrmy and hard to get close. Tony blinks, then rolls his eyes at his own bad memory. "Of course." He stares out at the plant, narrowing his eyes as if he could spot something evil just by looking carefully. But of course, it looks like any other power plant to him. "This is why Garou should have more technology. A good bomb would take care of it." Yiska isn't very interested in the talking, he's aggitated about being in the car and wants to stick his head out the window. He can't, so he torments Bits, like a big brother would torment his sister. Shay chuckles at Tony. "Y'know, bombs don't *need* technology. You know, dynamite? And ... gunpowder, and stuff." Cursor notes, "That's all Weavery stuff, Shay. It's just simpler technology. And Tony, it's not that simple, not that black and white. Destruction on that scale feeds the Wyrm. You can't just blow the Wyrm out of existence. It's not just a physical thing." Bits mutters at Yiska, and tries not to yell at him for tormenting her. "Don't pull my pony tail, I will totally get you back when you aren't looking." Cursor pauses, then adds, "Some of us do use weapons, and technology, as best we can. But, you know, you have to be ... more surgical. You have to root the Wyrm out from where it infests, spiritually and physically. Wanton destruction does no good. Plus, we don't have those kind of numbers. Even back in the old old days, there were never that many of us." Tony mms, turning his face back into the wind. "Too bad there wasn't a way to make more Garou," he mumbles. "Other than the traditional, I mean." Yiska pulls on Bit's pony tail. Why would you say not to do something like that?! "I think biting people and making them Garou woudln't really be a good idea, though," says Shay. Cursor nods at Tony and says, "Yeah. Well, those aren't the cards we were dealt." He laughs a little at Shay, "I'm not sure that's what he meant by 'traditional', kid." Bits howls, "Damn it, Yiska!" and she turns around and pushes him back, "Stop it." Suddenly, the silent Hope flips around, and her eyes filled with Rage and pain, screams, "KNOCK IT THE FUCK OFF!" at the two Wendigo. She slumps down in her seat, and mutters, "We're almost there." Tony snickers at Cursor and Shay. "Bow-chika, Shay. The old Woogab--" He's cut off by Hope's outburst, jerking back in his seat and looking frightened for a moment. Horseplay can get pretty out of hand around us werewolves, he thinks. Especially when one is already tense. Yiska snickers at Bits, then flinches and presses himself up against his seat. He blinks a few times before mumbling a 'sorry' and pushing his face against the window, going silent and pretty much avoiding all eye-contact. Shay's eyes get rather big at Hope, and he just settles down and blinks. He goes the Yiska route of peering out the window at the scenery. Bits yipes and ducks her head, coughing. Cursor, the ragabash, can't help but mutter, "Do not taunt happy fun ahroun," under his breath before reaching out and trying to comfort the Black Fury. She takes a deep breath, and murmurs an apology after a few minutes of uncomfortable silence, "I'm just... a little nervous about this. That's all. It's, um, kind of weird. Sorry." Cursor nods, and a few moments later, pulls into the driveway of a large, very nice house near the lake. One could almost call it a mansion, though it is perhaps not that big, and relatively newly built, within the last 30 years or so. There aren't any cars in the driveway, and the place looks quiet. There is, however, a for sale sign in the middle of the yard. Tony gets out of the car, looking the house over with approval. "Nice pad," he comments, though his eyes are drawn to the sign. He wonders briefly who gets properties and such when a family dies. Another relative? The government? Yiska waits until everyone else is out of the car until he gets out - then he pretty much stays in the back, hands in his pockets and lips shut. "Woah." Shay glances at Tony, wincing just a little at the 'nice pad' comment. Hope likely doesn't want to have that pointed out any more than necessary. He strolls around the yard some. "So, would the Slords know we're in town?" Hope reaches into her pocket and pulls out a keychain. She carefully removes one of the keys then holds the rest out, pointing at the large garage at the end of the driveway. "This is the key to the garage, and my car keys. Would someone mind going and getting it. It's the silver Prius. I, um, want to get some of my stuff." She holds the one key in her other hand, and looks to the house. Cursor puts his hand on her shoulder, even though she's quite taller than him, and says, "I'll come with you, if you don't mind some company." Cursor looks over to Shay, "Hopefully, not. We're about ten miles from the caern, so I don't think they would have any reason to think we were out here. It's just ... bad form on our part." He laughs a bit. Tony takes the keys from Hope, nodding at her. "Sure thing," he says, going to the garage door and fiddling the key in the lock. As the lock twists, he pushes the door open and heads inside, feeling around for a light switch. Yiska slumps against the side of the SUV and glances around the neighborhood, seems like he's taking some time out to think to himself, maybe he's writing emo songs in his head. Or maybe he's decided to be look-out. He just feels so terribly out of place in this arena that he's having trouble dealing with it. SHay follows behind Tony, really for lack of anything better to do. And because he's just curious what would be in the garage besides the car. Bits decides to stay with Yiska, then, without other direction, just so the galliard is not left alone, and so the horn of a passing car doesn't throw him into a rage, or a panic. [more] Tony and Shay open the door to the garage, and find a light switch without trouble. The incandescent bulb flicks on, only to reveal an empty concrete slab where three cars once resided. The rest of the garage, too, has been cleared of personal possessions. There's a couple shelves, but they are all empty. Just as this sight sinks in, an alarm starts to go off, at the main house. It only blares for half a second before it is silenced, though. Tony sighs to Shay as the garage lights up with disappointing results. "Damn. They must have been impounded or something." He jerks his head up at the alarm, but he knows it's just the house alarm being disabled. Would a brief blip show up back wherever they monitor these things? He really hopes not. "Come on, let's go back to the car." Yiska jumps and spins at the house, the hairs on the back of his neck raising. As the noise is suddenly silenced he peers around, then turns to Bits, "What was that? A battle cry? Are they being attacked?" While he's asking, he's also starting towards the house.. The empty garage is just as disappointing for the theurge. Shay then looks at Tony. "Um. Oh crap. Do you think Hope is dead? Like, according to the police or anything?" Bits reaches out to reassure Yiska, jogging slightly, to try and keep him back, "That was a house alarm. It is... um, like if a den could howl an alarm if a stranger came to it. But I am sure Hope told it that she is not a stranger, because this is her den, so it will be okay." [more] There's no further movement from the house, though, before Tony and Shay return to the truck. Tony stands by the truck with the others, waiting patiently for Hope and Cursor to return. He doubts it'll take long, if the house has been effectively looted as the garage was. Yiska blinks at Bits, then ohes softly and walks back to the SUV, "That makes sense, I guess." He rubs his head, then goes back to leaning on the truck.. waiting with everyone else. The alpha's prediction is right, and Cursor and Hope return very shortly, and start loading back into the truck. The ahroun sniffs and says, "It was weird, like it was my house, but not. Like someone had taken everything personal from it. They changed the lock, too, and alarm code, but Cursor took care of that." She smiles at him, then sighs, then looks between everyone, "I think we should go see my Uncle. He might know what happened, is that okay, can we do that?" Cursor exhales, "I'd rather not stay any longer that we have to, but, yeah, I'll take you, if your pack wants to go."
